Overview

In this review, we're diving into a side-by-side comparison of the Marvel Topps Chrome Hobby Box and three Blaster Boxes — this time focusing on card count rather than straight dollar-for-dollar value. With a total of 72 cards in the Hobby Box and 84 cards across three Blasters, this breakdown helps collectors determine which format gives the best overall return based on inserts, parallels, and hit quality.

This is a follow-up to our previous video review where we analyzed value-for-money between the two formats. If you missed that one, we recommend checking it out first to see how the blasters came out ahead in the budget showdown.

Pricing Snapshot (as of review date)

  • Hobby Box: $550 (via Dave & Adam’s Card World)

  • Blaster Box: $55 each (Total: $165 for 3 boxes)

Total value comparison:
$550 Hobby Box vs. $165 worth of Blasters

Hobby Box Breakdown (72 Cards)

Highlights Pulled:

  • 4 Numbered Cards:

    • Captain America #14/40

    • Jean Grey #70/75

    • Nick Fury #221/299

    • Leila Elley Spider Refractor #58/399

  • 6 Refractors (as expected)

  • Anniversary Inserts:

    • X-Men 50th Anniversary

    • 45th, 55th, and 60th Marvel anniversary cards

  • Marvel Icons Inserts: Colossus, Shang-Chi

  • Future Stars: Spider-Boy

  • Avengers 20th Anniversary: Iron Man

  • X-Men Giant-Size: Iceman

Notable Pulls:

  • Captain America #14/40: Eye-catching artwork, although off-center left to right

  • Jean Grey #70/75: Excellent condition and artwork

  • Solid consistency in refractor distribution and insert variety

Observation:

The Hobby Box offered a strong showing in terms of guaranteed hits, including four numbered cards and a solid spread of inserts. Card centering still shows some inconsistencies, particularly leaning to the right, which is a known issue in this set.

Blaster Boxes Breakdown (84 Cards)

Exclusive Features:

  • Iron Man Gold Card Inserts (1 per box)

  • Yellow Lava Refractors (2 per box, average)

Highlights Pulled:

  • Iron Man Gold Cards: 3 total, different covers

  • Yellow Lava Refractors:

    • Jeff the Land Shark

    • Emma Frost

    • The Watcher

    • Bucky Barnes

  • 6 Refractors total

  • Marvel Icons: Mr. Fantastic, Iron Man

  • Anniversary Cards: She-Hulk 45th, Gambit 35th, Blindfold 20th

Notable Pulls:

  • Emma Frost Yellow Lava Refractor: Highly sought-after based on resale activity

  • Jeff the Land Shark Yellow Lava: Always in demand

  • Juggernaut and Modok Refractors with excellent clarity

Observation:

While the Blasters didn’t yield any numbered cards this time, they introduced exclusive content not found in the Hobby Box — Yellow Lava Refractors and Iron Man Gold Inserts, both of which add collector appeal. These inserts make the Blasters a viable option for those looking to chase low-cost rarities.

Side-by-Side Summary:

Feature Hobby Box 3x Blaster Box

Total Cards 72 84

Numbered Cards 4 0

Refractors 6 6

Marvel Icons 2 2

Anniversary Cards 6 3

Future Stars 1 0

Avengers 20th 1 0

Yellow Lava Refractors 0 6

Iron Man Gold Cards 0 3

Final Verdict

  • If you're chasing value on a budget:
Blaster Boxes win. For a fraction of the price, you get more total cards, unique inserts, and decent refractor rates. Perfect for casual collectors or parallel chasers.

  • If you want guaranteed hits and rare pulls:
Hobby Box is the way to go. You're locked in for multiple numbered cards, a broader variety of inserts, and better hit consistency overall.

Our Recommendation:

Collectors should grab Blasters for parallel hunts and value — but Hobby Boxes for guaranteed rarity and a richer pull experience.
