First Impressions

When Upper Deck announced the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot trading cards, fans of Kevin Smith’s View Askewniverse (and collectors of quirky non-sports sets) had plenty to be excited about. Each hobby box promises 15 packs with 5 cards per pack, offering a mix of base set cards, parallels, relics, and autographs.

Going into this break, my goal was to complete the 100-card base set (including the 20 convention badge-style character cards), while also chasing after the rarer parallels and some big autograph hits.

And let me tell you—these boxes did not disappoint.

The Base Set & Convention Badges

The 100-card base set is clean, colorful, and full of hilarious nostalgia from the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot film. My favorite subset is the convention badge character profiles, styled like Comic-Con passes. These feature actors as themselves (Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Walt Flanagan, Joey Lauren Adams, Ming Chen, etc.), which really adds to the “meta” humor of the franchise.

Throughout three boxes, I was pleasantly surprised by how many of these badges appeared—sometimes two per pack! For collectors who love cameos and movie star cards, these will be the highlight of the set.

Parallels & Numbered Cards

Upper Deck included several tiers of parallels to keep things exciting:

  • Berserker (non-numbered gold foils)

  • Snoogans (#/799)

  • Snoochy Boochies (#/499)

  • Black & White Variants (#/137 – the toughest chase)

I pulled multiple Snoogans and Snoochy Boochies across all three boxes, adding a nice layer of rarity to otherwise standard cards. Sadly, I didn’t hit one of the coveted black & white variants, but the volume of parallels made up for it.

Hits & Treasures Pulled

This is where the boxes really shine. Across the three boxes, I landed:

  • Jason Biggs autograph card

  • Dedric Bader autograph (as Security Guard)

  • Dual autograph card – Jason Biggs & James VanDerBeek (#/49)

  • Blueprint relic cards featuring James VanDerBeek, Kate Micucci, and Jennifer Schwalbach Smith

These hits elevate the product from just being a fun novelty set into something with true collector appeal. The dual auto of Biggs & VanDerBeek was easily the crown jewel of the break—a low-numbered card that will thrill any fan of the Reboot film.

Collector’s Perspective

One aspect that stood out was the relatively low amount of repetition, even across three full boxes. For a 100-card set, I expected heavy duplication, but the collation was fairly balanced. That made the hunt for the full base set feel achievable without being tedious.

That said, I do wish Upper Deck had broadened the scope beyond just the Reboot movie. Including cards from the entire View Askewniverse (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, etc.) would have created a richer and more collectible product line. As it stands, this release is fun and nostalgic, but narrowly focused.

Final Verdict

The Upper Deck Jay and Silent Bob Reboot Hobby Boxes deliver a great mix of humor, nostalgia, and collectible value. With frequent parallels, fun convention badge cards, and some impressive autograph/relic hits, these boxes offer plenty of entertainment for fans of Kevin Smith’s world.

Pros:

  • Strong autograph checklist (Biggs, VanDerBeek, Bader, etc.)

  • Convention badge subset is clever and collectible

  • Parallels add chase value

  • Plenty of cameos and meta humor

Cons:

  • Limited to Reboot instead of the full View Askewniverse

  • Black & White (#/137) cards are extremely tough pulls

Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)
A hilarious and nostalgic set for fans and non-sports card collectors, with enough autograph and relic potential to keep box breakers coming back for more.
