Collectoons X-Men ’92 Trading Cards (Peru) – Product Review
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)
Overview
The Collectoons X-Men ’92 Marvel trading cards from Peru have been generating a lot of buzz across Whatnot, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, and the trading card YouTube community. With bold artwork, frequent inserts, and international appeal, these boxes promise a fun rip — but after opening multiple boxes back-to-back, some clear strengths and weaknesses emerged.
This review is based on opening four full boxes (with a fifth box intentionally left sealed due to repeat concerns).
What’s in the Box
Each box includes:
120 total cards
24 packs per box
5 cards per pack
Paper (laminated) packs
Mix of base cards, battle scenes, lenticular cards, and clear/see-through inserts
There is minimal information printed on the box itself, with no checklist or odds listed, which makes set-building and value assessment more difficult.
The Good 👍
🎨 Artwork & Visual Appeal
The artwork is the strongest part of this product. The cards feature dynamic, detailed X-Men ’92-style illustrations with vibrant colors and energetic battle scenes. Several of the group battle cards are standout pieces and look great in hand.
✨ Inserts Are Frequent
Lenticular cards and clear/see-through cards appear regularly, not just as ultra-rare hits. The lenticulars are side-to-side and visually sharp, while the clear cards add variety and interest to the rip experience.
♻️ Paper Packs
The paper packs are unusual but open cleanly and feel more environmentally friendly than standard foil. While different, they are functional and easy to rip.
The Not-So-Good 👎
🔁 Heavy Repetition
The biggest issue is collation and repetition. Many packs contained:
Multiple copies of the same character in a single pack
Identical character groupings repeated across packs and boxes
Long stretches dominated by the same few characters
Characters like Cyclops, Rogue, Phoenix/Jean Grey, Jubilee, Storm, and Wolverine appear heavily, often to excess.
🧬 Limited Character Roster
Despite the depth of the X-Men universe, the character selection feels surprisingly small. Outside of Magneto, there is a noticeable lack of villains and fan-favorite X-Men such as Nightcrawler, Iceman, Sabretooth, Juggernaut, and others.
📏 Non-Standard Card Size
The cards are slightly narrower than standard trading cards, which affects storage. Standard sleeves and top loaders do not fit perfectly, requiring alternative supplies. More like a Yu-Gi-Oh size card.
📋 No Checklist or Odds
There is no official checklist, insert odds, or set breakdown included, which makes it difficult for collectors who enjoy set completion or structured collecting.
Final Verdict
The Collectoons X-Men ’92 cards from Peru are fun, flashy, and visually impressive, especially for casual rippers and Marvel fans who enjoy bold artwork and frequent inserts. However, poor collation, limited character variety, and non-standard sizing hold this product back from being a top-tier release.
For ripping a box or two? Fun experience.
For opening multiple boxes? Repetition becomes noticeable quickly.
For sealed or pack resale? Possibly the better play.
⭐ Final Rating: 3 out of 5
Great artwork and inserts, average execution.
Collectors looking for variety, structured sets, or deep character rosters may feel underwhelmed, while Marvel fans who enjoy art-focused cards will still find plenty to like here.
